Virat Kohli Retires
Indian cricketer legend, Virat Kohli, has confirmed that he is quitting Test cricket in a bold move that has rocked the world of cricket of a great chapter of the game marked by this cricketing flashy diamond of all generations.
Kohli announced about the retirement on the online world with a sincere statement that thanked his fans, teammates, and coaches for supporting during his 13-year test career. Perseverance, dedication and enthusiasm have characterized this journey. Yet I know now that a new chapter is here,” he wrote in his post.
Having burst into Test cricket in 2011 Kohli quickly became the bedrock of India’s batting and its one of the most accomplished Test captains in the country’s history. Under the captaincy, India rose to the highest point of the ICC Test rankings, and registered great overseas wins, including the celebrated series victory over Australia in 2018–19.
His Test stats speak volumes:
-
Matches: 113
-
Runs: 8,848
-
Centuries: 29
-
Batting Average: 49.3

Without his statistics, Kohli’s sheer assertiveness, the tireless fitness, and fearless captaincy revolutionised India’s game in Test cricket. His rollicking celebratory hand signals, match-winning centuries and legendary, git-sledging while smiling moments made him a folks’ hero, but it did not stop him from filling the front pages of the media.
His retirement saw endless tributes and comments from the world. Tendulkar hailed him as a “warrior who gave his heart & soul to Test cricket” while Ponting said Kohli was “one of the best captains in Test cricket today”.
What’s next for Kohli? Although he is retiring from Tests, well trusted sources say that Kohli is focusing on white-ball cricket and working with new talent. Kohli can still play for India in the T20 World Cup this year.

As people heard of his retirement, one thing becomes apparent: The absence of Kohli in the leadership of India’s Test team has created a huge void. But the masculine qualities (in) which he prevailed (i.e. relentless effort, lofty ambition and extraordinary success) will become a shining and enduring light for his successors.
