Their bond dates back to their school days, and they later shared the honor of playing for the Indian Cricket Team together. Kambli and Tendulkar first gained national attention at the ages of 14 and 15, respectively, with an extraordinary 664-run partnership for their school. However, Kambli’s cricket career was not as smooth as Sachin’s . Vinod was once considered to be more talented and Sachin, he had a sensational start to his cricket career scoring a double century in just his second Test match against England. His phenomenal performance for Team India continued and he achieved another remarkable milestone by scoring a second consecutive double century in his third match against Zimbabwe, becoming the first Indian batter and the third overall to achieve back-to-back double hundreds in Test cricket. Despite this promising start, his career faced a downturn, with no half-centuries in his last ten innings, including three ducks. Ultimately, Kambli’s Test career was limited to just 17 matches. In ODI, he featured in 104 matches, accumulating 2,477 runs from 97 innings. He maintained an average of 32.59 and a strike rate of 71.94, with two centuries and 14 half-centuries to his name. His final appearance for India came in October 2000 during an ODI against Sri Lanka in Sharjah.
